The Year 2000 First Day Covers issued by

HAWAI'I POST®


June 13 2000


Note: The scan does not properly show the $3 value in silver foil color and the $5 value in gold foil color.

A First Day Cover was issued on June 13 2000 with a special cachet and postmark. Covers were made in white and also gray (shown) on high-quality laid paper envelopes.
The special cachet above shows an example of an actual duplex cancel used on the last day. All cancelling devices after June 13 1900 were then destroyed and replaced by different ones.
The special postmark for the above cover was issued for June 13 2000 only. The outer circle reads "Centenary of the Last Day of Use of Hawai'i Postage Stamps." The inner circle reads " WAIKIKI, O'AHU, HAWAI'I POST". The center lines across read "1900/JUNE 13/2000."


Note: The scan does not properly show "HAWAI'I POST" and the $8 value in gold foil color on the Mini-sheet.

A First Day Cover was also issued on June 13 2000 with a special cachet and postmark for the mini-sheet. Covers were made in white and also gray (shown) on high-quality laid paper envelopes.


September 2 2000

A First Day Cover was issued on September 2nd 2000 with a special cachet and postmark for the $5 stamp. Covers were made on ivory-colored high-quality paper envelopes.
The special cachet above depicts a photo of Japan signing the Act of Surrender on board the USS Missouri.
The special postmark for the above cover was issued for September 2nd 2000 only. The outer circle reads "Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, O'ahu. Hawai'i Post" The center lines across read "1945/SEPTEMBER 2/2000." Next to the postmark is the letter 'M' with "THE MIGHTY" at the bottom. The whole postmark reads "The Mighty MO" which is the nickname for the battleship.

A First Day Cover was also issued on September 2 2000 with a special cachet and postmark for the $8 mini-sheet (above). Covers were made on ivory-colored high-quality paper envelopes.


September 15 2000

A First Day Cover was issued on September 15th 2000 with a special cachet and postmark for the $5 mini-sheet (above). Covers were made on white high-quality paper envelopes.
The special cachet above depicts a view of the Bishop Museum, Honolulu. Margaret Mead became an Associate of the museum during her stay in 1925.

The special postmark for the above cover was issued for September 15th 2000 only. The postmark is in the shape of an open book. The right page has a circle cancel which reads "Waikiki, O'ahu. Hawai'i Post" The center lines across read "1925/SEPTEMBER 15/2000." The left page reads "COMING OF AGE IN SAMOA". 75th Anniversary of Margaret Mead's visit to Hawai'i in 1925 before going to Samoa & writing her famous book.

Because of the ladies being in their natural state (topless) the mini-sheet FDC is not for sale to minors.


October 16 2000

125th Anniversary of the Birth of Princess Ka'iulani.


A First Day Cover was issued on October 16th 2000 with a special cachet and postmark (above). Covers were made on high-quality paper envelopes in white and gray.
The special cachet above depicts a drawing of the young Princess Ka'iulani and a short biography.

The special First Day postmark for the above covers was issued for October 16th 2000 only. The postmark is in the shape of a peacock. The half circle cancel reads "125th Anniversary of Princess Ka'iulani's birth" and also "Ainahau, Waikiki, O'ahu. October 16 2000 " The bottom line reads "Hawai'i Post".


November 13 2000

150th Anniversary of the birth of Robert Louis Stevenson.


A First Day Cover was issued on November 13th 2000 with a special cachet and postmark (above). Covers were made on high-quality paper envelopes in white and gray.
The special cachet above depicts a drawing of a young Robert Louis Stevenson and a short biography.

The special First Day postmark for the above covers was issued for November 13th 2000 only. The postmark has a quill pen in an inkwell with the initials "RLS" on it. The circle cancel is in script and reads "150th Anniversary of the Birth of Robert Louis Stevenson" and also "Waikiki, O'ahu. Hawai'i Post" The center lines across read "1850/November 13/2000."


December 21 2000

150th Anniversary of the opening of the first Post Office in Hawai'i.


A First Day Cover was issued on December 21st 2000 with a special cachet and postmark (above). Covers were made on high-quality paper envelopes in white and gray.
The special cachet above depicts a sepia photo of the first Hawai'i Post Office and text regarding the opening.

The special First Day postmark for the above covers was issued for December 21st 2000 only. The postmark says "1PO" - for First post Office. The circle cancel reads "Customs House, Honolulu Harbor, O'ahu. Hawai'i Post" The center lines across read "1850/December 21/2000."
