HAWAI'I POST®FAQ's - Frequently asked questions: Q. How is it legal for you to issue stamps. I thought that only the U.S. Post Office could issue stamps in the U.S.A. ? A. It is perfecly legal for us to issue stamps. They prepay a service that we provide. We operate under the exemption to the U.S. Private Express Statutes that allows urgent mail. Many other local posts exist or have existed in the U.S.A. We are not the first, nor the last. Q. Where is your office located ? A. We are in Waikiki on the island of O'ahu. Our office is not open to the public. All express mail is picked up and delivered. Future plans are for our own walk-in office where express mail can be dropped off for delivery. Q. How do you pick up and deliver mail ? A. We pick up and deliver using four methods - on foot, by bicycle, by moped and by minivan. We have found the moped to be the fastest and most versatile method for small packages. For larger packages we use a minivan. Q. What criteria are used in the issuance of stamps ? A. Our policy is that all stamps must have a Hawai'i theme and be directly related to Hawai'i. Your input for future issues is welcomed. Q. What determines the denominations on the stamps ? A. The denominations on the stamps we issue reflect the actual cost of our services. We operate under the exemption to the U.S. Private Express Statutes that allows urgent mail. This federal law requires a minimum of $3 per delivery and only allows same day or overnight delivery. The $3 minimum rate was set by law many years ago. Our pick-up and delivery rates are very reasonable when compared to other express mail companies. By law, we can only deliver express mail and not regular mail. For example, we could issue a 37c stamp but it would be illegal for us to deliver a regular letter with it. Q. I plan on visiting Waikiki soon. Where can I buy the stamps ? A. Just send us an e-mail in advance of your arrival detailing the stamps you wish to purchase. We will then deliver them to your hotel or condominium when you arrive, at no extra charge. Q. Do you sell or trade my name and address to outside companies ? A. Absolutely not! We respect your privacy. Your name, address & credit card information (and any other personal information that you supply to us) are kept strictly confidential. Your information will NEVER be sold, rented or given to any third party. See our privacy webpage. MAHALO |
